Yes, the population production is a major hassle that makes it far harder to use without pause-spamming as vanilla has no way to automate the production. I haven't played enough to say what is the "species meta" though, maybe they are better than the others, but I don't think in single-player any species is truly broken. I think this benefit is quite powerful, but there are drawbacks to the species as well (if I remember correctly, they are the one that has to build their population instead of it growing, when I played it I was surprised at how limiting that was).
You also have to be prepared to defend those worlds, which gets increasingly hard.Īs for the buildings that give food and water, they are only for extreme cases (you just need one more food but there is none in the galaxy), generally they are not worth it. And then you have to wait for the pressure to produce its own buildings. You need a ton of "lesser" planets to get a level 3 or 4 planet, and each of those has to be colonized by sending some population from one of your worlds, then its population has to grow until it can start producing, and only then the next planet in the hierarchy can start growing (which takes even longer). Getting more high-level planets is always good, but it takes time and resources and you might have other priorities. But having a bunch of unused food and water is just wasteful, and having unused tier 1 resources is probably not worth it. It is proportional to population, the higher the pop the more money it produces, but for 1 population (the minimum to colonize) it is actually negative.īeyond the absolute minimum to level up, if your economy allows you can colonize special resources like morphic materials and aluminum to buff your leveled up worlds.
